Training Systems for Sweet Cherry: Light Relations, Fruit Yield and Quality

Semi-dwarfing rootstocks have enabled the adoption of high-density orchard systems for sweet cherry. Understanding effects training on light capture and fruit quality lateral bearing cultivars early in tree/orchard establishment is lacking. The aim this study was to investigate interception over two seasons 4–5 year-old ‘Kordia’ grafted ‘Krymsk 5? rootstock trained 2D planar upright fruiting offshoot (UFO), super spindle axe (SSA), tall (TSA), Bibaum (BB) steep leader (SL). Average highest UFO SL (69%) followed by BB (66%). yield SSA (15.1 t ha?1) (14.5 (12.7 ha). There were negative correlations between crop load dry matter content (r2 = 0.67 0.84) total soluble solids (0.92 0.42) 2019–2020 2020–2021, respectively. Our results indicate that sufficient space required uprights when a system achieve optimal quality. This provides improved understanding enable cherry at plantings.
